כשהפעילה החברתית סוזן בשארה נרצחה באפריל אשתקד, בעלה זיאד התקשה להאמין שמי שהקדישה את חייה למאבק באלימות הפכה בעצמה לקורבן שלה. הוא סיפר אז על האובדן, על הפחד ועל האפשרות שגם בני משפחה נוספים ייפגעו. שנה ושלושה חודשים לאחר מכן, החשש הזה הפך למציאות: בשארה, בן 57, נרצח בטייבה לאחר שהוזמן לפגישת עבודה שהתבררה, על פי החשד, כמלכודת מתוכננת. היום (שני) כשלושה חודשים לאחר הרצח, הוגש כתב אישום נגד עבד אלרחמן מסארוה, שלפי האישום מילא תפקיד בהבאתו של בשארה לזירה.
