Er is een nieuwe opsporingsmethode om ernstige coldcasezaken op te lossen. Een pilot van het Openbaar Ministerie en het Nederlands Forensisch Instituut, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van particuliere DNA-databanken, is succesvol afgerond. Daarom zal deze werkwijze bij meer zaken worden ingezet. Met de methode is het mogelijk om DNA op de plaats van een misdrijf te vergelijken met DNA-profielen van databanken die daar toestemming voor hebben gegeven.
