Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi started a visit to Syria on Wednesday, the first such visit by an Iraqi leader since the ouster of Bashar Al Assad in December 2024. Mr Al Zaidi, who is being accompanied by a federal delegation, is set to hold talks with Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara in Damascus, government spokesman Haider Al Aboodi said.
