24% מהאזרחיות הוותיקות בישראל חוששות ללכת לבדן בחשכה באזור מגוריהן, ו-18% כלל אינן יוצאות מבתיהן בשעות החשכה. כך עולה מנתוני הסקר החברתי לרגל חודש האזרח הוותיק, שמפרסמת היום (ראשון) הלשכה המרכזית לסטטיסטיקה (הלמ"ס). מהנתונים עולה כי 26% מבני 65 ומעלה חשים בדידות לעיתים קרובות או לפעמים, לעומת 19% מבני 20 עד 64. גם כיסוי ההוצאות השוטפות מהווה קושי עבור חלק מהאזרחים הוותיקים: 18% דיווחו כי אינם מצליחים לכסות את ההוצאות החודשיות של משק הבית, ובהן מזון וחשמל.
